An insight into the upbringing, life and work of Abigail the creator of AbigailsArtwork.

Abigail’s Story

I suppose that most people can pinpoint a time where the realisation of thing they loved doing jumped out and grabbed them with both hands and ushered their whole being down the path of doing that thing. I don’t have that, I’ve just simply always found any emotion is better worked through when your hands are busy creating, especially big emotions.

Have you ever gone to the Peak District? If so, you will know how some of the hillsides can seem so remote and the weather can sometimes just change with a click of your fingers. That’s what I love about it there and I try to recreate part of that feeling in my work. You’ll find in a lot of the landscape pieces I create, there will be little nooks and crannies that you may not have noticed on first glance.

If you want to know about my education, I did go to college for Art and Design and finished with a Diploma, 2 distinctions and a merit. College was a fantastic decision, I met loads of like minded people who all enjoyed Art too and I made friends for life.

Sometimes, it only seems like college was yesterday, but we all know that’s definitely not the case! However, I do still vividly remember my tutor, Jo, a lady who always wore beautifully baggy black clothing and big chunky jewellery. She taught us lots of ways to incorporate texture into our works, and how using everyday objects you normally probably wouldn’t look twice at can be great for using things that would otherwise be thrown away. I think about her lessons a lot when making any of my work, and smile when I can save something from going to landfill.

These days, life is very, VERY, full. I am a fiancée to a wonderful man who understands my passions and helps me carve out time to get stuck into them. I am a mother to a toddler who has bundles of energy and who I want to make proud. I own a craft room that overlooks the type of landscape that I adore and live in a community that respects the outdoors enough for everyone to enjoy a piece of it.

I am happy. And happy is a big emotion to create with. I hope you love what my happiness creates too, and I hope it can make you happy whenever you look at it.
